Jade Jones’ Team GB boyfriend, missed drugs test controversy and brutal TV show

Welsh taekwondo star Jade Jones has been back at the Olympic Games.

The 31 year old athlete first struck gold 12 years ago in London, followed by a second win in Rio four years later. However, she experienced an early exit at Tokyo 2020. Jones hails from Bodelwyddan, just outside Rhyl in north Wales.

Her impressive performance at the age of 19 in London earned her an MBE. She also clinched gold in the -57kg category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 European Games, and boasts 10 Grand Prix wins.

Jones is in a relationship with ex-taekwondo star Jordan Gayle, who is now a coach for Team GB. Hailing from Manchester, Gayle enjoyed a successful career himself, taking part in 35 fights across a 10-year period (2005-2015).

Speaking about his coaching role with Team GB following his retirement from the sport, Gayle said: "It’s really exciting being back into the mix of things with the team. I’ve always looked at the coaching side of the game as something I’d love to do. So, it’s amazing to have that chance."

"The future of taekwondo depends on the grassroots. To be given an opportunity to have an input of what that looks like is amazing."

Gayle never made it as a Team GB Olympic champion, and never quite made the cut for them at a competitive level, but he's making a big contribution as coach in his post-fighting career.

There is some controversy hanging over Jones, after she missed a drugs test due to 'very exceptional circumstances'.
