ITV Emmerdale hints at heartbreaking split for legendary couple following 'cruel' remark

Emmerdale has teased trouble for Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and his wife Lydia (Karen Blick) following Samson's exit. Last week, Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) was sentenced to four years in prison after he lied about being stabbed by Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) at The Hide.

The nasty incident was orchestrated by Josh Cope (Osian Morgan) and consequently, Matty was thrown in prison where he experienced a horrendous time. Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) pressured Samson into telling the truth to get her innocent son released, but Samson initially planned to do a runner from the village before Matty's trial.

Eventually, Lydia persuaded her stepson Samson to tell the truth to the police, and he knew he’d face a prison sentence for what he’d done. In a bid to toughen the teenager up, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) gave him some fighting lessons but Samson used his new skills to beat up bully Josh.

Noah (Jack Downham) called the police on Samson for the assault against Josh and he was arrested in front of his devastated parents. After the court hearing, Sam and Samson shared an emotional goodbye before he was carted off to prison.

Sam has been left downtrodden and overwhelmed with worry for his son and blames Moira.

During Tuesday's Emmerdale episode (August 13), Sam reeled over who called the police on Samson and is convinced it was Moira, believing he may have had a chance to avoid a custodial sentence if he hadn't been arrested for assault.

In a conversation with Lydia, Sam explained how he's constantly thinking about Samson and what may be happening to him. Lydia tried to encourage Sam to talk about his anguish and explained she felt the same.

But Sam suddenly snapped at her: "It's not the same", as Lydia looked horrified.
