It’s crunch time in Alexandria as Enyimba battles Al Masry
THE stage is set at the Borg El Arab Stadium, in Alexandria, where Egypt’s Al Masry FC will host Enyimba Football Club of Aba, in their opening game of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Enyimba arrived in Egypt, on Sunday, and had their first training session in Ismaila, off Cairo, on Monday ahead of the Group D tie, which will set the tone for the rest of the teams’ campaigns in this year’s Confederation Cup.
The Nigerian side held its first official training at the Borg El Arab Stadium, Ismaila, last night, with Coach Yemi Olanrewaju optimistic that his team has done enough to get a positive result today.
The Group D encounter is one of the six matches that will be played in a group that also has defending champions, Zamalek FC of Egypt, and Mozambique’s Black Bull.
Speaking ahead of the game, Olanrewaju said: “It has been intense days of working ahead of our continental match against Al Masry in Egypt. We hope for a good outing in the group stage.”
Enyimba’s second game of the series will be against Zamalek of Egypt, on December 8, 2024, in Uyo, before the travel to Maputo to face Black Bull FC on December 15, 2024, to wrap up the first round of matches in the group.
In the reverse fixtures, Enyimba will host Black Bull before traveling to face Zamalek in Egypt.
The Peoples Elephant’s final group game is against Al Masry, in Uyo.
The CAF Confederation Cup is the only continental trophy that Enyimba have not won. The Peoples’ Elephant became the first Nigerian side to win the CAF Champions League when they took the title back-to-back in 2003 and 2004.
They also won the CAF Super Cup in 2004
