"It feels to me..." - Transfer insider drops major claim on £34m-rated Southampton ace's future
James Ward-Prowse could stay at Southampton for the rest of his career, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The £34m-rated captain was heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa last summer and he is expected to face further speculation when the transfer window reopens for business next month.
It’s been another outstanding campaign for the England midfielder, who’s celebrated the new long-term contract he signed last summer with the most productive goalscoring season of his career.
Ward-Prowse’s two superb goals at Brighton last month saw him reach double figures for the first time, with all-but one of those 10 coming in the Premier League.
He’s also chipped in with eight assists to help Southampton challenge for a place in the top half, although their recent form has virtually put an end to their chances.
As a result, he picked up three prizes at Saints’ end of season awards recently, including fans’ and players’ player of the season.
But Ward-Prowse’s impressive form has caught the eye of Manchester United, who are eyeing a £75m deal for his services this summer, while Pep Guardiola is also an admirer of the free-kick specialist, describing him as the best set-piece taker on the planet earlier on in the campaign.
Regardless, having committed his future to the club by penning a five-year deal when Villa were keen 12 months ago, Jones doesn’t think that the 27-year-old will ever leave his boyhood club.
When asked about his future at St Mary’s Stadium, he told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t know if James Ward-Prowse is ever going to leave Southampton. It feels to me like he’s not.”
