Ahmed Naser, a former footballer, was one of the many civilians whose lives were upended by the sectarian violence that engulfed Iraq after the US-led invasion. In a bomb blast in Baghdad, he suffered life-altering injuries that killed one of his teammates. More than twenty years later, he has retrained as a basketball player and will represent Iraq in the Paralympics next year.
