ISL: Jamshedpur win five-goal thriller against Mumbai City FC

Jamshedpur FC snatched an injury-time winner to climb a rung to the third spot on the Indian Super League table with a 3-2 victory against Mumbai City FC in Bambolim on Thursday. Owen Coyle’s side rode a brace from the prolific Greg Stewart (9’, 90+4’ P) and another strike from Ritwik Das (30’) to nullify a comeback bid from the defending champions with goals from Rahul Bheke (57’) and Diego Mauricio (86’ P) to keep the Islanders on fifth spot with 25 points. Jamshedpur have 28 points, one less than the teams above them.

JFC could have taken the lead inside 30 seconds when Ricky Lallawmawma found space to send a cross inside box. But Boris Singh’s piercing header hit the woodwork. But it was not long before they found the breakthrough from a medley in the box in the ninth minute.

Das’ backheel found Stewart lurking behind to direct the ball past goalkeeper Mohamad Nawaz into the net for his eighth goal of the season. Mumbai City’s woes increased soon after. Their midfield maestro Ahmed Jahouh was first booked with a yellow card in the 10th minute and just nine minutes later, an injury forced the Moroccan to limp off field and be substituted.

Jamshedpur took advantage of the lack of creativity in the midfield and organisatio nin Mumbai's defence to doubhle thei rlead in the 30th minute. Two goals down at half-time, Mumbai came back strong in the second half.
