Ireland's massive World Cup showdown live on RTÉ

The Republic of Ireland's huge World Cup play-off against Scotland on Tuesday will be screened live on RTÉ2 as part of a double-header with Manchester City's Champions League match versus FC Copenhagen.

Vera Pauw's team are aiming to make a seismic breakthrough by qualifying for a first ever major tournament.

They will take on the Scots at Hampden Park, 8pm kick-off, desperate to keep the dream alive.

That game will be on RTÉ2, directly after Manchester City's meeting with FC Copenhagen at Parken Stadium.

There will also be live national radio commentary of the play-off on RTÉ 2fm's Game On, and a live blog on RTÉ.ie/sport and the RTÉ News app.

Coverage of Manchester City will commence at 5.30pm and conclude at 7.40pm, before a 7.45pm start for coverage of the Hampden Park showdown.

It's an immensely important night for the Girls in Green who are aiming to make history by reaching next summer's finals in Australia and New Zealand.

"I am proud of where we are but I am very conscious of the fact that we do not have anything yet," Pauw said ahead of the crunch collision.

"[Pressure] is a good thing. We have grown to that, we have worked really hard to be independent and to love the pressure at the highest level, instead of being afraid of it."
