Ireland international Roma McLaughlin back for second Shelbourne stint

Shelbourne have brought Republic of Ireland international Roma McLaughlin back to the League of Ireland from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring.

The 25-year-old is no stranger to Tolka Park, having played with last year's Women's Premier Division runners-up before moving to the United States for college at Connecticut University.

The Donegal midfielder had previously played with last year's champions Peamount United, then spent four years at CCSU where she played a key role in helping the team to win four NEC titles. She was named as the NEC Midfielder of the Year twice and was selected for All-America (All-Star) teams on two occasions.

The 11-cap midfielder joined Fortuna Hjørring on an 18-month deal in January last year but has now agreed to re-sign for Shels, "subject to international clearance".

McLaughlin was part of the Ireland squad that secured World Cup qualification in October 2022 but made just one appearance last year and missed out on the tournament. She was injured during the victorious autumn Nations League campaign.

She said: "I'm very excited to be coming back to Shels, I'm familiar with a lot of the girls from my last time at Tolka Park and it’s a really great group of people.

"I think there is real potential in this team and with the new coaching staff coming in. I’m grateful that I get to be a part of that and I’m looking forward to getting started."

Shelbourne FC head coach Eoin Wearen said: "We are delighted to get Roma over the line after having several conversations with her over the past few weeks. She indicated her desire to come back to Shels and be part of the exciting project we are building and will be a key player for us this season.

"Her ability on the ball, combined with her winning mentality and game
