Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna reveals thoughts ahead of MK Dons clash

Ipswich Town have looked a lot brighter under new boss Kieran McKenna and have begun to play a much more attractive style of football to boot.

It will be a meeting of minds then this weekend when the Tractor Boys take on an MK Dons side with promotion aspirations and a solid style of play. The Ipswich boss though has told the MK Citizen that what matters is ‘who can score the most goals’ and who is ‘the most effective’ during the clash in order to win the game.

Ipswich have had plenty of promotion aspirations this year but struggled slightly under Paul Cook and it led to them falling down the league. With the club not where they wanted to be, the Tractor Boys’ owners pulled the trigger and let go of the former Wigan boss.

Instead of choosing a manager who is familiar with the third tier though, the club plumped to bring Kieran McKenna to Portman Road for his first stint as a boss. So far, the gamble has paid off, with the former Man United coach thriving in the role.

He has picked up plenty of wins and made his side look good while doing so. They may also now be in with an outside chance of a play-off spot again and a win against MK Dons this weekend would go a long way towards helping.

McKenna though has insisted to the MK Citizen that the game will not be about playing good football but instead, the clash will be won and lost based on who can be ‘the most effective’ and impose their style on the match more.

The manager said: “It’s not going to be a beauty contest, it’s about which team can find a way to be more effective in the game. There are some similarities between them and us, but for me it’s not a competition to see who’s going to have more of the ball. For me it’s a competition to see who scores the most goals.
