IPL 2022: RCB concede mind-boggling 17 sixes against CSK; 56 so far in this season

DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsmen Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube made the mockery of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers by hitting a total of 17 sixes in their IPL match. RCB bowlers, who have conceded 56 sixes so far in this season, bore the brunt of Uthappa and Dube after CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (17) and Moeen Ali (3) cheaply. Apart from 17 sixes conceded against CSK, RCB conceded 14 against Punjab Kings, 11 against Rajasthan Royals and 7 each against Mumbai Indian and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively in this season.

Incidentally, the IPL franchise Pune Warriors, now defunct, had conceded 21 sixes in an innings against RCB - the most in the history of IPL way back in 2013.

Uthappa (88 off 50 balls) and Dube (95 not out) shared a whooping 165-run partnership off just 74 balls for the third wicket -- the highest this season -- to rally the innings and take them to 216/4 after CSK was reeling at 36 for 2 in their 200th IPL match.

The carnage started from the 11th over as the duo went hammer and tongs and CSK cruised to 133 for 2 in the 15th over, with 73 runs coming in the five overs. While Uthappa's knock was studded with nine sixes and four boundaries, Dube also hit eight sixes and five fours in his unbeaten 46-ball knock. Both Dube and Uthappa posted their highest IPL scores to set up the match for defending champions CSK, who are reeling from four straight losses this season.
