International call-up shows Erik ten Hag may have 'secret weapon' on the right wing at Manchester United

With the international break fast approaching, a number of teams have begun to name their squads for the upcoming round of fixtures.

Tyrell Malacia will be joining up with the Netherlands squad after a series of strong performances with the first team and Manchester United will await the names of who else will be heading away during the break. Players usually gain call-ups thanks to good form with their clubs, however, one player has seemingly been called up regardless of a lack of game-time.

Facundo Pellistri has been called up to the Uruguay squad despite not playing a single minute of competitive football this season for United nor has he secured a move away from Old Trafford either on loan or permanently this summer. But it seems that the Uruguay coach, Diego Alonso sees something in the young winger that others are missing.

He even selected Pellistri when he was failing to get minutes at Deportivo Alaves last season. Whenever Pellistri plays for Uruguay, he seems to show something that United have been missing.

A directness on the ball that no other winger on the right-hand side has brought for years; he consistently drives to the byline and cuts it back across to create high-quality chances for his teammates. Now United have signed Antony, it seems unlikely that Pellistri will be the clubs starting right-winger any time soon.

But given that the rotation option or Plan B has yet been set in stone (unless Jadon Sancho swaps to the right-hand side), there could be a chance for the Uruguayan to stake his claim. It will be an uphill battle for the winger, he may have to wait for the cups or Europa League to get some time on the pitch.
