Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi makes major Liverpool admission in Champions League

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has declared Liverpool favourites in their Champions League clash - but believes he has a gameplan to challenge the Reds.

The Serie A champions welcome Jurgen Klopp's side at the San Siro on Wednesday for the first leg of their round of 16 tie.

While both teams stand second in their respective leagues, Inter are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in 10 years compared to Liverpool reaching the stage for the fifth succession season.

And while mindful of the difference in experience, Inzaghi reckons small details could be key.

"I think that Liverpool are one of the greatest clubs in Europe," said the Inter boss.

"But I'm happy that my club and the fans and my players deserve to play these kind of games against these very experienced teams.

"We haven't been playing in the last 16 for a long time. The first step was to get to that stage after 10 years. It will be hard but we will try to do our best.

"I believe Liverpool are the favourites but the matches have to be played. Liverpool have strong individual players but all games start 0-0.

"In some matches, you can't ignore the smallest detail as they are important. We know what I'm going to ask the team and my lads, we will need to impose our style. I want my players to play with a free mind and play our game.

"We know determination will make a difference in this kind of match and my lads have proved it since the start of the season. They are determined to win."

Inzaghi added: "Liverpool are a team with great players in every position, a great manager and a great squad, a very intense style of play.
