Inter look to finish rejuvenating week with crucial victory

Inter Milan will aim to finish a rejuvenating week in their season with another victory at Torino on Sunday to keep them in the hunt to retain their Serie A title.

Going into the winter break, Inter looked to be in a strong position to finish top of the pile once more this term, but some indifferent form after the restart let AC Milan and Napoli climb above them in the standings.

However, a 5-0 win over bottom side Salernitana last Friday - Inter's first goals in five matches in all competitions - and Tuesday's 1-0 victory at Liverpool in the Champions League showed signs things were on the up again.

Inter still crashed out of the Champions league, having lost 2-0 in the first leg in Milan, but beating Juergen Klopp's side at Anfield is no mean feat.

It was Liverpool's first home defeat in 29 matches across all competitions - and should give the Serie A champions plenty to be positive about.

"We came to Anfield to give our best and we emerge fortified from this meeting with a top team," Inzaghi told reporters after the match.

"We have got to this (Champions League) stage for the first time in 11 years and ended up perhaps playing the strongest team in Europe and we were their equals."

Next up is Torino on Sunday, with Inzaghi fully aware, given how tight it is at the top of the table, that Inter cannot afford to slip back again.

Ahead of their Saturday clash with Empoli, AC Milan lead the way, two points clear of their city rivals in second having played a game more.

Stefano Pioli's side became the latest team to hit the Serie A summit last weekend, as they overtook Napoli with a 1-0 win at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
