Inter 1-2 AC Milan: Olivier Giroud scores lovely winning goal to shake up Serie A title race

Olivier Giroud was the difference for AC Milan in a thrilling 2-1 win over Inter Milan on Saturday night.

Not only is the Derby della Madonnina one of Europe’s most revered derby games, but it’s always a banker for entertainment and Giroud ensured that the latest iteration was absolutely no different.

Milan came into the game as underdogs with Inter leading the way in the Serie A table and there was nothing to suggest that was unjustified during a first-half that the champions commanded.

Ivan Perisic opened the scoring for Simone Inzaghi’s men before the interval and they looked to be protecting their lead with relative ease as they entered the final act of the game.

However, Giroud had different idea with Milan’s summer signing blowing the Serie A title race wide open by scoring two goals in three minutes that gave the Rossoneri all three points at the San Siro.

The Frenchman’s opening goal was never going to threaten FIFA’s Puskas Award, but his left-footed prod at the back post was enough to beat Samir Handanovic and get Inter nerves jangling.

And there could be no denying the classiness of Giroud’s second strike as the ex-Arsenal and Chelsea man produced a gorgeous little turn before finding the bottom corner to put Milan 2-1 up.
