Insider shares big West Ham summer transfer claim as "main focus" for Moyes revealed

West Ham United’s ‘main focus’ in the summer transfer window will be to sign a striker, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hammers have long been linked with a new forward since Sebastien Haller’s departure for Ajax back in January 2021 via a £20.25 million deal.

Since Haller’s departure, Michail Antonio has been left as West Ham’s only recognised striker in the first-team squad, limiting their attacking options.

The Jamaica international has done an admirable job of leading the line for the capital club over the last couple of campaigns, though, registering 20 goals and 15 assists in his last 63 appearances.

Antonio fired West Ham to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League last season and has played a pivotal part in them reaching the Europa League quarter-finals this time around.

However, if David Moyes’ charges want to keep challenging both domestically and across the continent, then they will surely need to bring in some additional firepower when the market reopens.

Antonio’s tally of eight top-flight strikes means he is the east London outfit’s joint-top scorer in the league alongside Jarrod Bowen, but that total is dwarfed by the leading marksmen of other sides competing in the upper echelons of the division.

The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City have at least one player who has hit double figures in the Premier League, highlighting the need to bring in some cover and competition for Antonio.

Centre-back is another area of the pitch where West Ham are reportedly eager to bolster, but Jones believes a new striker will be at the top of Moyes’ wish list.
