Indonesia Wins 2 Gold, 2 Silver Medals in Singapore Open 2022

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian athletes competing in four classes of the Singapore Open Track & Field Championships 2022 managed to bring home two gold medals and two silver medals. The gold medals were won from the women’s 100 meters, men’s 4x100 meter relay, women’s 100 meter hurdle, and men’s 400 meter hurdle. 

Indonesia’s first gold medal was won by Emilia Nova in the women’s 100 meters hurdle who logged a time of 13.74 seconds over Philippines’ Melissa Escoton (13.96), and home runner Kerstin Ong (14.99).

The second gold medal was taken by Valentin Vanesa Lonteng in the women’s 100 meter on the second day with a time of 11.77 seconds. She beat SIngapore’s Veronica Shanti Pereira in second who recorded a time of 11.93 seconds, and third place finisher Philippines’ Eloisa Luzon-Medina (12.40).

Meanwhile, one silver medal was won by Bayu Kertanegara, Eko Rimbawan, Wahyu, and Sudirman Hadi in the men;s 400 meter relay recording a time of 40.09 seconds. The relay team finished behind first finisher Malaysia with Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, Jonathan Nyepa, Muhammad Zulfiqar Ismail, and Muhammad Haiqal Hanafi, who logged 39.66 seconds. 

The last silver medal was won by Halomoan Edwin Binsar Simajuntak in the men’s 400 meter, recording a time of 52.84 seconds, just behind Singapore’s Calvin Quek who finished first with 51.85 seconds, and ahead of Philippines’ Francis Medina with 53.20 seconds. 

The Singapore Open Track & Field Championships 2022 is considered a crucial event ahead of the SEA Games 2021 in Hanoi, scheduled to start on May 12 and end on May 23 this year.
