Indiana mounts comeback, tops Nebraska for 22nd straight win - ESPN
LINCOLN, Neb. — Indiana coach Curt Cignetti was still clutching a white towel in one hand as he stepped up to the podium Saturday afternoon.
Nebraska sure made his No. 7 Hoosiers sweat with three dominant quarters that built up to a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter. But when it was time to go win, the defending national champions never flinched.
Indiana stared down a 17-6 deficit against an undefeated foe and responded with two long passing touchdowns and four fourth-quarter stops on defense for a 20-17 triumph that left Cignetti far more relieved than frustrated.
«It's not sure it's completely sunk in — or it's starting to — that we won,» Cignetti said, «because it took everything the players and coaches had in that one to find a way to overcome.»
The Hoosiers have won 22 consecutive games, and Cignetti improved his regular-season record to 29-1 since arriving in Bloomington. There haven't been too many close calls along the way, and this program hadn't trailed in any game since last year's Big Ten championship bout with Ohio State.
But down 10-3 at halftime in a battle that the Huskers had thoroughly controlled, Cignetti knew he was about to find out if this year's squad had the poise necessary to play to their standard.
«You've gotta have an indomitable will, man,» Cignetti said. «A will that cannot be defeated or subdued. And you've gotta be resilient. You have the ability to overcome the unexpected. No matter how bad it gets, you never let anxiety, frustration enter your mindset. You're gonna find a way. It's just a matter of time.»
