India vs Sri Lanka: Indian players get soft quarantine in Mohali

The selectors and team management had given all-format players Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant a break from the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka. Shubman Gill, KS Bharat, Jayant Yadav, Saurabh Kumar and Umesh Yadav too will join the rest of the squad which will come down from Dharamsala. The Test players have been exempted from being locked in a room for days.

They have been given soft quarantine instead. "The players have started assembling in Mohali. They are being tested every day.

They have been given the opportunity to go to the stadium and train. Giving a four-day break for these cricketers doesn’t make sense if they had to endure another five days of hard quarantine. Frequent hard quarantines take a toll on the players," a BCCI source told TOI.

The Indian team last had soft quarantine when they travelled in a bubble from Dubai to Australia in November 2020. With the number of cases on the wane, this could be the norm going forward.
