Impressive Cardiff City shake off early red card to smash Rotherham United
League One leaders Cardiff City shook off an early red card to ease their way to a fully deserved win over Rotherham United.
Ryan Wintle was given his marching orders after just 20 minutes for a professional foul, but the visitors defied their numerical disadvantage to produce a superb away performance that will have delighted boss Brian Barry-Murphy.
Omari Kellyman's fourth goal of the season handed Cardiff the lead, before Chris Willock added what was a thoroughly deserved second just after the break.
Isaak Davies then came off the bench to add a third deep into stoppage-time, and the scoreline in no way flattered City.
This superb win extends Cardiff's unbeaten run to 10 games, and they remain two points clear at the top of the table
The early sending off seemed to galvanise Cardiff, but they were actually the better side from the start.
Had Kellyman chose a more conventional finish he may well have opened the scoring on 16 minutes, but instead opted for a backheel after being teed up by Joel Colwill, which was hit straight at Rotherham goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.
Kellyman then drove a low shot wide four minutes later as Cardiff remained on top, but their controlled start looked ready to fracture just moments later.
Wintle, near the edge of his own box, played a ball straight into Harry Gray, before being penalised for what was deemed a professional foul worthy of a straight red.
Joe Powell sent the resulting freekick into the wall, and the logical conclusion for many inside the New York Stadium would have been that a long afternoon awaited the visitors.
However, Perry Ng nearly gave City a spectacular lead a few minutes later; stinging the palms of Dawson with a rasping effort from around 30 yards.
