Ilkay Gundogan on his love for Football Manager and how it's preparing him for management

Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan has revealed more details about his aspirations to move into a coaching role at the end of his playing career, with the midfielder also talking about his fondness for Football Manager 2022.

Gundogan is still a regular in the Man City squad and just 31 years old, the German's playing career is far from over. But, it seems Gundogan is preparing ahead, with the midfielder claiming to be taking a coaching course, with management "definitely an option" in his future.

In the interview with UMM, Gundogan also spoke about his love for the football management simulation video game Football Manager 2022, the teams he has managed in-game and the tactics he uses. It seems Gundogan isn't looking to take Pep Guardiola's job just yet though, with the German claiming not to have managed Manchester City on FM22 yet!

In fact, Gundogan actually revealed that he likes to start his FM22 save games at a club in the lower leagues. When asked if he uses Man City in-game, the German said: "It’s not true, It’s false. I pick a team from a lower league.

"When I played recently, maybe a couple of months ago now, I started a save with one of my friends. We started in the Championship, he picked Fulham and I picked West Brom.

"I made it straight up [into the Premier League] straight away, he didn’t make it. We lost some of the tension in the game, so we stopped, but I also like to start in the German league and Turkish league, it’s quite fun."

Many City fans may be familiar with Gundogan's fondness for Football Manager 2022. The midfielder posted a picture of himself playing the game in January on social media.

In the interview on UMM Youtube's channel, the midfielder was given a selection of assumptions about himself
