Ilechukwu upbeat as Enugu Rangers host Niger Tornadoes in Awka

Fidelis Ilechukwu

Enugu Rangers’ Manager, Fidelis Ilechukwu, believes the only way to compensate for his team’s loss to Remo Stars in Week Two is to get a convincing victory over Niger Tornadoes in Awka.

Rangers have been playing their home games in the last couple of seasons in Awka because their Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu home has been adjudged by the NPFL as unsuitable for games of the league.

With one win and a loss in their first two league games this season, Coach Ilechukwu’s side must beat the Abdulazeez Hamza Abara-tutored side if they must remain among the league’s frontrunners.

The coach is fortunate to have his major weapons, including Kalu Nweke, Godwin Obaje, Ifeanyi Ogba, Skipper Chukwudi Nwaodu and David Chimezie, injury free and ready to shoot down the Tornadoes.

Speaking on the game, Ilechukwu said: “Niger Tornadoes are always a difficult side to play, especially with the presence of my former colleague, Coach Abara at the squad. But like we do here in Rangers, we take each match as they come and we have our strategy for every team.

“With the work put in by my players and coaches after our last match, I am very positive about the outcome of the weekend’s encounter in Awka. Let our fans come out in their numbers to cheer us to a good win on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, in matches played yesterday, Bendel Insurance defeated Plateau United 1-0 at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, while Sunshine Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Heartland of Owerri in Akure, just as the Katsina United versus Lobi Stars game ended goalless in Katsina.
