"If Rangers were able to sign him..." - Journalist raves over "exciting" Van Bronckhorst target

Rangers target Josh Tymon ‘would definitely improve the squad’ at Ibrox this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stoke City in recent weeks after enjoying another impressive season with the Championship outfit.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has placed Tymon on his wish list but may be forced to wait until late in the transfer window to snap him up.

That’s because the highly-rated defender is believed to have a £5 million price tag, a fee the Gers will only be able to afford if they cement their place in the Champions League group stages.

Selling first-choice left-back Borna Barisic to make room for Tymon is another avenue that Van Bronckhorst could explore, although the Croatia international is a key part of his setup.

And Football Insider have provided an update on Tymon’s situation, claiming Rangers have ‘registered their interest in signing’ the marauding full-back.

The versatile Calvin Bassey, alongside Barisic, is believed to be on the radar of several clubs, and the former England Under-20 international is seen as an ideal replacement if either player departs.

O’Rourke believes Tymon is an ‘exciting, young’ player with ‘huge potential’ who would bolster the current options available to Van Bronckhorst.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think Josh Tymon had a really good season for Stoke City; he’s got huge potential and is an exciting, young left-back. So, I think if Rangers were able to sign him, he would definitely improve the squad.”
