Idah out of Nations League games after knee surgery

Adam Idah will miss the Republic of Ireland's UEFA Nations League clashes against Scotland and Armenia later this month after undergoing knee surgery.

Idah, 21, only returned to training four weeks ago after a six-month injury absence. The Corkman suffered a season-ending knee injury last February.

He missed Ireland's March friendlies and June's four Nations League fixtures, as well as the Canaries' run-in as they suffered relegation from the Premier League.

It's another disappointing setback for the player and for Stephen Kenny, who is an admirer of Idah's capabilities.

"The team news is not too different from the last game, with the only exception being Adam, as his knee is still swelling up," Norwich manager Dean Smith said on Thursday.

"He had to have some exploratory surgery, that will put him out for a number of weeks."

Ireland face Scotland on Saturday 24 September and then welcome Armenia to Dublin the following Tuesday.

Kenny names his squad for the double-header next week.
