Ian Watson vindicates Huddersfield Giants move as he sets sights on building a dynasty

Ian Watson insists Huddersfield Giants reaching the Challenge Cup Final is the beginning of his journey with the club, rather than the end goal. Watson saw his side reach the Tottenham showpiece with a dominant 25-4 win over Hull KR to secure the club's first major final in 13 years.

It will be Watson's third appearance as a coach in a final in the last six attempts, having made Grand Final and Challenge Cup Final appearances during his time at Salford Red Devils. But having made the move to West Yorkshire, Watson believes his latest major final can the beginning of a lasting legacy that can be built.

"I'm made up for the club," he said. "For Ken (Davy), Richard (Thewlis), people involved in the club, people who have been here a long period of time and have been chasing this little bit of success. It's the first step for us, when I came here this is what we wanted to achieve and achieve consistency and to be able to do that one and a half years in and make our first major final is a big, big positive for us.

"To do it again for another town and club feels extra special and with people involved like Ken. I got sucked in speaking to Ken when he was talking to me about the club and what he wanted it to be and how we achieve that. I said how I want to go about it, around real good people, the characters we bring in. We've a really good group of players here, you don't always understand you have that togetherness but I think these do.
