Ian McIntosh's family invites Sharks fans to Kings Park for 'celebration of life'

Kings Park will host a celebration of former coach Ian McIntosh's life on Wednesday, 12 April, the Sharks confirmed on Saturday. 

McIntosh, considered the Godfather of Sharks rugby and one of the most respected, recognisable coach's in the union's history, died in an Umhlanga hospital earlier this week having been diagnosed with cancer. 

He was 84.

A moment of silence was observed ahead of the Sharks' European Champions Cup quarter-final against Toulouse in France on Saturday, and shortly after the Sharks were beaten 54-20 to be eliminated from the competition, the franchise confirmed the function. 

"The McIntosh Family invites you to join them in celebrating the life of the legendary, Ian McIntosh, whose contribution to rugby and the lives he touched through it, will live on forever," a statement read. 

Gates will open at 15:30, the service will start at 17:00 and entry for anyone who wishes to attend is free.
