Ian Evatt's stern Premier League vow 10 years on from Bolton Wanderers top flight relegation

Today marks 10 years since Bolton Wanderers were relegated from the Premier League.

Wanderers have yo-yoed between the three divisions of the EFL since then in an eventful decade, narrowly surviving going out of business altogether in 2019. The Championship, League One and League Two have all been a home for Wanderers over the past decade.

The Whites' 11 year stay in the top flight of English football came to an end at the Britannia Stadium following a 2-2 draw versus Stoke City. Mark Davies and Kevin Davies gave Bolton the lead after Jon Walters put the Potters ahead, before adding a second to level before full-time.

QPR lost 3-2 in a dramatic final day of the season as their defeat to Manchester City handed the Blues the title on goal difference ahead of Manchester United. But Wanderers were unable to get the three points they needed to overtake the London side in the table and were this consigned to the Championship for the 2012/13 season.

Since then, there have been three relegations - two from the Championship and one from League One - as well as promotions out of third and fourth tiers of English football in an eventful decade for the club. There have also been six permanent managers in that time.

The latest of these, Evatt, took Wanderers out of League Two last season and finished ninth in the third tier of English football in the campaign which has recently ended. The Bolton boss wants Wanderers to mount a promotion challenge to the Championship next season.
