I wasn’t treated badly by Napoli, says Osimhen

Victor Osimhen speaks after receiving the CAF African Player of the Year award.

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen said that he was not treated badly by Napoli.

Osimhen was the subject of ridicule a few months ago after being mocked on two occasions by Napoli’s admin on TikTok.

The club’s admin on TikTok released two controversial videos with one mocking the Super Eagles striker following his penalty miss against Bologna.

The other controversial video compared Osimhen to a coconut. This led to criticism of Napoli by Nigerian football fans who believed their star player was treated badly.

Osimhen after receiving his award as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) player of the year for 2023 on Monday was asked by a journalist if he felt he was unfairly treated by the Partenopei.

“I want to correct an impression here: Napoli didn’t treat me badly,” Osimhen told journalists in Marrakech, Morocco.

“It was a stupid mistake from an individual and I wasn’t happy about it.

“Aurelio De Laurentiis (Napoli President) took charge of the situation and stood with me.

“I spoke to the individual and he was remorseful. I am happy with that.”
