'I want you to stop and be nice. Stop screaming. Stop screaming now'
Horrifying footage shows a carer abusing a woman that he had been assigned to look after. Joseph Jones can be seen in the footage restraining the vulnerable woman on a sofa as she screamed and shouted.
Jones dragged the non-verbal victim by the scruff of her neck, throwing her on a sofa and using his body weight to pin her down when he was responsible for her care. He reportedly flew into a rage when he was awoken from sleep during a shift by the woman who wanted to go for a walk. He is said to have "reacted angrily", dragging her into her bedroom and, when she fell, picking her up and throwing her onto the settee.
A colleague of Jones captured the shocking video at the woman's home after becoming suspicious of Jones' behaviour in the days before the incident. Now, Jones has been given a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, at Chester Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to a charge of ill-treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker.
In the video, Jones, 31, can be heard shouting "I want you to stop and be nice. Stop screaming. Stop screaming now.
"No more screaming now because you don't get what you want. Let go of me now. You can sit there kicking and shouting all you want to stop."
As both Jones and the woman get more agitated he can be heard telling her: "Listen to me. Stop screaming and you can ask nicely. I will sit here until you stop screaming now."
Images from the incident showed the woman with marks around her neck. Another clip showed Jones sleeping on the sofa while he was on shift.
The victim has not been publicly named, and is understood to have complex medical needs. This included requiring round-the-clock care at her home, which was provided by Sugarman Health and Wellbeing.
