'I visited the luxury members’ club loved by celebs and royals - here’s what to expect when Soho House lands in Manchester'

It’s one of the most anticipated openings in recent years, and in the coming months Soho House will finally open its doors at the Old Granada Studios.

Spread across five floors, the London-born members club will open its first northern house in the city within the former television complex, complete with a gym, steam room sauna, fine-dining restaurant, late-night bar, 23 bedrooms and its very own rooftop pool.

Located in the St John’s neighbourhood, which in recent years has become home to Aviva Studios and upscale Greek restaurant Fenix, Soho House marks the latest stage in the district’s rapid transformation.

Since opening the very first Soho House in a Georgian townhouse in London’s Bohemian Soho district over thirty years ago, the members’ club for creatives has expanded across the world. And while a large proportion of the houses are in cities - London currently has 11 - it’s also created hubs deep within the English countryside and on idyllic Caribbean islands.

Due to its exclusive nature, member’s privacy is taken very seriously, and it is this feature of Soho House that has also attracted A-list clientele. It was at the Grade II-listed Dean Street where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first went on a date back in 2016.

There’s a distinct design, food and drink offer and series of member’s facilities and perks tailored to each individual property but it is guided by some core principles. Visiting three of Soho House properties in the capital, including its flagship Greek Street, followed by Dean Street, and White City House, the former BBC studios, common threads began to emerge.
