'I've never really been too impressed' - Journalist slams new Wolves man

Journalist Scott Saunders has expressed his doubts over Wolves summer signing Goncalo Guedes.

The Premier League outfit recently announced the transfer of the Portugal forward, who joined from Valencia on a five-year deal worth £27.5m.

While a knee injury to key forward Raul Jimenez – who will now be out for a number of weeks – heightened the need for a new attacking player to be added to the squad, not all seem to be convinced that this was the best move.

Indeed, while talking on the Talking Transfers podcast, Saunders claimed that he had never been impressed by Guedes despite having watched him play on a number of occasions.

He said: “I’ve seen him plenty of times before. He’s cost a lot of money. I’ve never really been too impressed with him, but Wolves have signed another Portuguese forward for a lot of money.”

TIF Thoughts on Goncalo Guedes and Wolves…

The 25-year-old has 31 caps and seven goals for his nation and has won numerous trophies across his career playing with Valencia, Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica – so he clearly arrives with some calibre.

However, Saunders clearly isn’t alone in thinking that the player isn’t quite a world-beater with journalist Sean Walsh adding: “I was going to say, I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve seen Guedes a lot, and not once has he impressed me.”

With that in mind, there could be reason for Wolves fans to fear that their new signing could well end up as a Premier League flop.

Despite that, according to SofaScore, he averaged a 7.08 match rating in La Liga last season, so he could yet bring that level of consistency to his new side.
