'I've been in a boot of a car': Hunt empathises with Ntseki as Chiefs fans (again) express fury

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt expressed sympathy for his Kaizer Chiefs counterpart, Molefi Ntseki, who once again had objects hurled in anger at him by Amakhosi fans on Wednesday night.

After their team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Matsatsantsa at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, some Chiefs fans threw objects at the coach and management, necessitating police assistance to escort Ntseki into the tunnel.

This marked Amakhosi's second consecutive game without a win, following a goalless draw with Royal AM over the weekend. It was also the second instance of fans throwing objects at Ntseki.

Hunt, who previously served as mentor for Kaizer Chiefs, was released from his three-year contract after just nine months due to a series of poor results between September 2020 and April 2021.

The 59-year-old coach said he understood what Ntseki was enduring, recounting an experience he had with Chiefs fans during his tenure.

Nonetheless, he stressed that there are more constructive ways for fans to communicate their frustrations.

"I've been there ... I've been there at Swallows in the boot of a car," Hunt told media during the post-match press conference.

"I've been there, so I understand. It's not for me to really comment. That's not the right way to handle things.

"We need to be more understanding of situations. And maybe they win on Saturday, then what happens? So, you never know in football ...

"But yeah, I think we can handle these things in other ways. It's just ... it's sad, it's very sad."
