'I turned my holiday home into a naturist resort but finding love is tricky - people get the wrong idea'

A divorcee who turned her former Canary Islands holiday home into a naturist resort says dating as a nudist businesswoman is 'tricky'. Karie Jane, 57, previously worked as a theatre producer.

But her life was transformed when she made the permanent move to Fuerteventura in 2013 following her divorce. While her business has flourished, Karie says she has also discovered herself through her work.

However, she says it isn't easy to find someone to share her life with, as men can 'get the wrong idea' about her lifestyle. "Since running the naturist resort, I would say that I fell in love with myself through naturism, it's very liberating," she told PA Real Life.

"I think it's tricky the whole dating scenario for me because of the type of business I run, because potential partners tend to get the wrong idea unless they are naturists themselves. So I'm very happy being single... but maybe someone should create a naturist dating app."

Karie, from Derbyshire, has been a naturist for more than 20 years. In 2000, Karie visited her first naturist beach while on holiday in Spain, and from then on, continued going on holiday in the nude.

The next year, she bought a holiday home in Fuerteventura, made up of five apartments, with her then-husband to embrace the naturist lifestyle more often. Karie and her husband divorced in 2013 and in need of a fresh start, Karie decided to move to Fuerteventura permanently.

In 2019, she transformed the holiday home into the BHH Naturist Resort in Costa Calma, a naturist retreat, with her ex-husband supportive of the move. Since opening, her business has flourished.
