'I might lose my job for saying this!' — The England international who's supporting Wales in the Six Nations today

Megan Jones may play international rugby for England, but that doesn't mean she'll be supporting Eddie Jones' men when they face Wales in the Six Nations on Saturday.

No siree.

For the 25-year-old Wasps fly-half, who has 12 Red Rose 15s caps to her name, was born in Cardiff, speaks Welsh and once harboured a dream to play rugby for Wales.

So, why - and how - did she choose England?

"That’s the golden question that everyone asks!" the former Ysgol Gymraeg Glantaf pupil told Jonathan 'Jiffy' Davies, Nigel Owens and Sarra Elgan during this week's S4C Jonathan show on Thursday.

"Growing up, it was my dream to play for Wales. But my mum is from Bristol so I had two options, and my dad told me ‘Meg, you can play for England.’ The opportunities for me over there at that time were better than in Wales, so I went across the bridge and never looked back, to be honest."

As you may expect, that decision came with a bit of mickey-taking over the years.

"I’ve had stick about my accent. When I go back home to Cardiff, everyone tells me that I sound English, but when I go back, they always say, ‘you’re so Welsh!’ I can’t win!

"When I was 17, 18, everyone wanted to say something. I remember wearing a Wales shirt to one of the England camps and they told me, ‘no, you can’t wear that,’ so I said, ‘OK, I’d better stop now!’"

As for who she will be throwing her support behind this weekend, the Team GB Tokyo Olympics co-captain is decided.

"I might lose my job for saying this, but Wales!"

Jones was born in Cardiff and began her rugby career with Glamorgan Wanderers. She studied sports science at Hartpury and has represented England in 15s and 7s.
