“I’m told” - Journalist claims £70m “machine” could “be coming” to Tottenham this summer

Tottenham Hotspur target Lautaro Martinez could ‘be coming into’ the club this summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The north London outfit have long admired the highly-rated 24-year-old and they could finally land the Inter striker over the coming months.

According to The Times, Tottenham agreed a £60 million fee with the Nerazzurri for Martinez last August only for them to renege on the proposed deal.

Inter were determined not to lose both on their star forwards in one window, and when Romelu Lukaku completed his switch to Chelsea, they ended negotiations with Spurs over Martinez.

The Argentina international then signed a new five-year contract in October, keeping him at San Siro until the summer of 2026.

Nevertheless, Inter’s extensive financial troubles have seen Martinez’s future be called into question once more, with The Times claiming last month that a new £70m asking price had been set.

It was stated at the time that Tottenham’s local rivals Arsenal were in the running for the South American’s signature, but after they missed out on a top-four finish, that may no longer be the case.

Tottenham pipped the Gunners to fourth place in the Premier League standings, securing a place in next season’s Champions League as a result.

And Spurs have since announced majority shareholder ENIC has made an investment of £150m into the club, with Talbot believing some of those funds could be spent on Martinez.
