‘I’m sure’ - Journalist claims Villa ready to pursue ‘left-footed Yaya Toure’ loved by Gerrard

Aston Villa will be ready to pursue a move for Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Gerrard signed the Nigerian for a measly £300,000 whilst he was in charge at the Scottish outfit in the summer of 2019.

Since arriving at Ibrox, the 25-year-old has proven to be a huge success with the Light Blues. Having produced 24 goals and 22 assists in 129 games for the club, the midfielder played a pivotal role in Rangers claiming their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years.

However, having entered the last 18 months of his current contract, the player has drawn speculation over his future.

In November, Birmingham Live reported that Gerrard may be keen for a reunion with Aribo at Aston Villa.

O’Rourke has now weighed in on the situation, claiming that signing the 25-year-old would be “good business” for the Midlands club.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “Villa, where Steven Gerrard obviously is, I’m sure would be ready to come in and sign the attacking midfielder, who might be available for as little as £10 million.

“And £10m doesn’t get you a lot these days, so to get someone like Joe Aribo, I think, would be good business.”

It was heavily reported during the January window that Villa were keen on signing a midfielder. Indeed, Gerrard confirmed that the club had a bid turned down for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, with Graham Potter’s side demanding £50m to sanction the Malian’s departure from the Amex Stadium.

Looking elsewhere, Aribo would be a much cheaper alternative.

Villa defender Ezri Konsa played with the midfielder whilst they were at Charlton Athletic, describing him as “a left-footed Yaya Toure”.
