'I love this guy' - Rio Ferdinand wants Man Utd to sign two Premier League stars

Rio Ferdinand has explained why he wants Manchester United to sign West Ham star Declan Rice and Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn this summer.

United have endured another inconsistent season under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and current boss Ralf Rangnick.

The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Premier League – 19 points behind leaders Manchester City – and will hope to salvage their season by securing a top-four spot and going deep in the Champions League, having drawn 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

United’s midfield is still an area of concern, with current incumbents Fred and Scott McTominay often criticised by fans and pundits, and Ferdinand hopes his former club bolster their midfield options at the end of the season.

Rice and McGinn have both been linked with moves to Old Trafford after thriving for West Ham and Aston Villa respectively and Ferdinand wants Manchester United to sign them both this summer.

Asked if he would be happy to see Rice and McGinn secure moves to United, Ferdinand told the FIVE YouTube channel: ‘Yeah, massively. I think you’re getting two good characters.

‘I think character is one of the main elements that we need – obviously you look for a certain amount of class and quality in the players.

‘But I think you need to build the right characters within this squad going forward if you’re going to improve – get the culture right at the football club and you need players to drive that, so if you’re buying and are in the recruitment team this year, I think that’s a big element that needs to be addressed.
