"I know for a fact" - Transfer expert now drops big claim involving Liverpool and Fabio Carvalho

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons that Barcelona were “sniffing around” to sign Liverpool target Fabio Carvalho in January.

The Fulham teenager was the subject of interest from the Reds last month, although he ended up staying with the Championship outfit.

But with Carvalho’s contract expiring at the end of the season, the attacker will have a major decision to make this summer.

According to The Athletic, Carvalho was on the verge of completing a deadline day move to Liverpool having undergone a medical in London ahead of a proposed transfer. However, the deal collapsed in the final hours of the window after the Reds were unable to complete their paperwork in time.

Despite the disappointment, Carvalho has reacted to his failed transfer in the perfect way. In his first game since the January window closed, he scored the opener at Manchester City in the FA Cup before chipping in with an assist in Fulham’s victory over Millwall in midweek.

Jurgen Klopp was quizzed about his interest in Carvalho ahead of Liverpool’s own FA Cup game and admitted that his side would be “crazy” if they weren’t still interested in signing him.

However, Jones believes that while Liverpool would appear the frontrunners for his signature this summer, they face competition from Barcelona despite signing three attackers in Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s no sign that anything is going on at the moment, but I know for a fact that Barcelona were sniffing around, and for everything they’re doing, you wouldn’t blame Fabio Carvalho for looking at Barcelona and thinking ‘why not?'”
