"I guess he got one big call right...": Social media reacts as Boris Johnson agrees to resign as Prime Minister

Social media has reacted to the news that Boris Johnson has agreed to resign as Prime Minister of the UK.

Mr Johnson is due to publicly announce his resignation later today, according to the BBC, following a record number of resignations in his Conservative government over the last 48 hours.

It comes after the the PM's handling of the sex scandal around deputy chief whip Chris Pincher earlier this week. The revelation that he know about claims against Pincher, but still promoted him, then 'forgot' he'd been told, was the last straw for many Tories.

The crisis was triggered on Tuesday when Chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid paved the way for a wave of Tory resignations - which have continued this morning.

According to No 10 sources, Mr Johnson has spoken to the Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady and agreed to stand down, with a new Tory leader set to be in place by the party conference in October, a No 10 source said.

As news of his resignation broke, thousands of people have taken to social media to share their thoughts. The decision has divided many people into two camps - those who thought he should stay and those pleased to see him gone.

One M.E.N reader said on Facebook: "Sneaky move by the new chancellor. Gets the job and then tells Boris to go. Can't trust any of them. Get 'em all out."
