‘I doubt it’ - Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson makes prediction about Manchester United

Liverpool FC skipper Jordan Henderson has conceded that Manchester United are “a very good” team and is not confident his club can catch them in the race for top four.

United sit four points ahead of their fifth-place rivals having played two games fewer. Erik ten Hag's side play Brighton on Thursday with Chelsea and Fulham left to play in their six remaining matches.

Liverpool only have four to go with Brentford, Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton to face. They beat Fulham 1-0 on Wednesday night to stretch their winning run to five amid an under-par season.

A win over Brighton would see United increase the gap between the two teams to seven points, which will become 10 if they win their game in hand to give them an all but unassailable lead.

If third-place Newacstle win their game in hand, they will go nine points clear of Liverpool. Both the Magpies and United have enjoyed successful seasons with Champions League football on the horizon.

As a result, it looks like Liverpool will fall short and Henderson has admitted that a catch-up looks very unlikely. He praised the quality of all of the teams currently in the top four with Arsenal and Manchester City battling it out for the title.

Asked about a late charge for a Champions League place after the Fulham win, Henderson admitted: “I doubt it. I think if you look at who is ahead of us, they are very good and quite far ahead.

“I think we’re just thinking about us and our performance levels. Hopefully we can be a lot more consistent when we come back after the summer.”
