‘I don’t see where he fits in’ – Anthony Gordon to Chelsea for £50m questioned by Nedum Onuoha

Nedum Onuoha has questioned Chelsea’s expected £50m bid for Everton’s Anthony Gordon and feels he does not fit in at the club.

Chelsea are preparing a second offerfor Gordon and are prepared to offer £50m – which is Everton’s asking price – after their first bid of £40m was rejected.

The 21-year-old became a regular in Frank Lampard’s team last term and has made 60 appearances in total across all competitions, scoring just four goals.

He has started both of Everton’s games so far this season, failing to score in the two defeats to Chelsea and Aston Villa, but The Times are reporting that the Blues are preparing a second £50m offer, which is likely to be accepted.

Former defender Onuoha, now a pundit, does not understand why Chelsea would sign Gordon as he does not fit into Thomas Tuchel’s tactics and feels he is a similar player to Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has struggled to get into the team.

‘He’s a big prospect but it’s £50m for a prospect,’ Onuoha told ESPN FC. ‘At the moment, I couldn’t put him into this Chelsea team and see where he fits.

‘I’m looking at Hakim Ziyech, I’m looking at Christian Pulisic; they are technically really good players but they do not really take people on, and that’s one of Anthony Gordon’s huge strengths.
