'I didn't understand his tactics' - Manchester United warned against making Thomas Tuchel move
World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit has questioned Thomas Tuchel’s credentials to become Manchester United’s new manager.
Although not one of the frontrunners, United have not ruled out making an approach for Tuchel amid the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea. The German’s future at Stamford Bridge has been thrown into doubt after Roman Abramovich had sanctions placed upon him by the UK government.
Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino remain the favourites to become United’s next permanent manager, with the former emerging as the club’s preferred candidate. Tuchel could still be an option, though, depending on Chelsea’s attempts to find a new owner.

But former Blues midfielder Petit is not convinced the Chelsea boss could handle the pressure of being United manager. The Frenchman questioned Tuchel’s tactics following their surprise 4-1 defeat to Brentford at the weekend.
“His spell at Chelsea started brilliantly with winning the Champions League,” Petit told Genting Casino. “I think he’s a very good manager, but sometimes, tactically, you don’t understand what he’s doing because against Brentford I didn’t understand his tactics.
“You can see he’s having trouble with some players and it’s normal in the dressing room during the season, but when it happens [with Tuchel] it stays for weeks and months between the players. Can someone explain to me what’s going on between Tuchel and Romelu Lukaku? I don’t understand it.
“Tuchel could go to Manchester United, but when things start to be difficult, you can see that he changes. He has some difficulties handling the pressure sometimes.
“With Manchester United, the pressure would be higher there than at Chelsea.
