Hythe Town one of only two Isthmian South East sides unbeaten at home this season

Hythe remain unbeaten at home this season after a 1-0 victory over Sheppey in Isthmian South East on Tuesday night.

Leading scorer Johan Caney-Bryan struck six minutes from time as the Cannons jumped three places to 13th.

Promotion-chasing Chatham are the only other side in the division still to taste defeat at home.

It was also a sixth clean sheet of the campaign for Steve Watt's side, who have conceded only 18 goals in 15 league games.

Six of those came in one game, against Chatham.

The defence has been a strength, even if goals have been hard to come by.

"We're a hard side to beat," said boss Watt. “Defensively, we’ve been outstanding.

“That’s the team as a whole, not just the backline, because we defend from the front.

“Likewise, when I talk about us not taking our chances, that’s the whole team, not just the forwards.

“In recent weeks we’ve had centre-halves and wing-backs missing good chances. We need to start helping each other out and chipping in with goals.”

Victory over Sheppey followed a goalless draw at home to VCD on Saturday.

The visitors had Byron Zak sent off after picking up a second booking shortly before half-time but Watt felt it was harder to play against 10 men.

“It was another frustrating day for us,” said Watt.

“We should have scored three or four goals but again we’ve not taken our chances.

“We’ve played well enough but we didn’t have enough quality to get three points, if that makes sense.

“Them going down to 10 men hasn’t helped because they sat in a low block and tried to counter-attack.

“When it was 11 v 11 we were getting a lot better chances because the game was open.

“With 10 men, they’ve defended well in two banks of four.
