Hype builds for Sevens World Cup in Cape Town and coach Powell's swansong
The hype continues to build for the Sevens World Cup in Cape Town, where the Blitzboks will look to send coach Neil Powell off in style.
The tournament, which takes place at Cape Town Stadium from 9-11 September, will be Powell's final act with the national side before he takes up his position as director of rugby at the Sharks.
With around a month to go until the three-day extravaganza, tickets are still on sale but running out fast.
On Wednesday at Cape Town Stadium, title sponsors Castle Lite hosted an event to promote the tournament after the sponsorship was confirmed last month.
"The nature of the Sevens format means that the sport has become known for it’s excitement, its entertainment and most importantly, its heaps of fun," said Colleen Duvenage, Castle Lite's brand director.
"And so, Castle Lite has partnered with World Cup Sevens 2022 to make sure that every rugby fan in Mzansi can experience the Sevens and all of its excitement, speed and vibes – in what we believe is the most fun you can have in 14min."
Powell has been Blitzboks head coach since 2013 and, most recently, guided the side to a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
