Hull FC defeated again as flat display fails to prevent Wakefield victory

Hull FC were second best once again as Wakefield ran out 26-18 winners at the MKM Stadium in a victory that all but confirmed their Super League status for next year.

The Black and Whites, meanwhile, were second best throughout and had little answer to what is now a ninth defeat in their last eleven matches. In a poor quality game, Wakefield just had more about them to grind themselves home, with Lewis Murphy getting a hat-trick of tries in the televised Friday night clash.

The home crowd must have had a sense of deja-vu as Hull were beaten at home for the fourth time in a row. Another poor performance, Wakefield had little trouble in defeating their hosts, who at least finished with a late flurrish and didn't succumb to the embarrassing margins of recent weeks.

It was a cagey start by both teams. Wakefield lost Jai Whitbread early on, with the prop helped off the field. That theme continued early on, with Connor Wynne sent for a HIA and young Davy Litten on for his debut inside five minutes. With not even ten minutes played, Hull then lost Joe Lovodua with the Fijain, who had a rare start at hooker, taking a knock to his leg following a scoot. Arona then went off for a HIA just as Wynne passed his, with both sides losing two players apiece in a disrupted and disjointed start to the game.

A flat affair, it was Wakefield who opened the scoring as winger Lewis Murphy finished superbly in the corner. Hull got an immediate chance to respond, but they blew it with a forward pass. Wakefield, however, didn't let their opportunities slip. They were much slicker than Hull and with some decent shape they managed to work the ball to their left edge with Lee Kershaw sliding
