Hughie Fury to face Michael Hunter in WBA title eliminator in Manchester on July 2

Hughie Fury’s WBA final eliminator against Michael Hunter has been confirmed for July 2.

That means that Hughie, the cousin of Tyson Fury, could just be one step away from a Battle of Britain against Daniel Dubois, who challenges Trevor Bryan for the WBA heavyweight title next month on June 11.

The heavyweight contest will take place in Manchester at the AO Arena a few miles away from Fury’s hometown of Stockport.

Fury and Hunter will both know a win will set them up rather nicely for a shot at the winner of the June 2 showdown between American champion Bryan and English challenger Dubois.

The event, hosted by BOXXER, will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports.

Fury has only lost three times during his career, and that was against Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Kubrat Pulev.

The Englishman claims he is willing to fight anyone, anywhere, at any place.

Fury said: “I take the fights everyone avoids.

“Michael Hunter has fought the best and is up there with the best. These are the fights I want, to show who is the best fighter out there. I’m looking forward to this challenge.

“I believe I’m one of the best fighters in the world and this is another big fight to prove I stand with the top three in the world heavyweight division.

And his promoter Ben Shalom added: “We’re excited to return to Manchester and the iconic AO Arena Manchester for a fight which has everything on the line.

“Hughie Fury has patiently built his way back to world title contention and has overcome big challenges along the way.

“This is another big test against one of the most avoided fighters in the division.

“Hughie is only just about to come into his prime and so if he can get past Michael then he puts himself unquestionably in the mix
