Huge queues as Greater Manchester's newest Primark throws open its doors

There was a bitter chill in the air this morning with temperatures down into single digits, but this didn't stop shoppers in one Greater Manchester town securing their spot in line for a brand-new Primark store.

Excitement was high in Bolton town centre as the high-street retailer unveiled its new store on the lower ground floor of the former Debenhams in the Market Place shopping centre.

In early 2023 it was confirmed that the brand's store, which was originally in the Crompton Place mall would move just around the corner to the other shopping centre. Bosses at Market Place bosses have described it as a 'massive vote of confidence' in the centre.

All 130 store colleagues plus 10 managers in Primark’s Bolton store team have moved from the former Crompton Place Shopping Centre location, which closed its doors for a final time yesterday after 48 years, as part of plans from the council to redevelop the town centre.

The new Bolton store features a refreshed look and feel for Primark shoppers to enjoy, and forms part of the retailer’s £100 million investment in its UK stores this year as it continues to mark 50 years on the British high street.

Primark Regional Retail Director, Neil Ford said: “It’s been a fantastic day for our Bolton store team and all the colleagues involved in bringing our brand-new location to the local community. We’ve been in the heart of Bolton now for 48 years so this is an important move for us, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response already from shoppers who’ve joined us today.
