Huge fire in Istanbul sends smoke billowing over Champions League final stadium ahead of Man City vs Inter Milan

Smoke from a large fire in Istanbul could be seen above the Ataturk Olympic Stadium ahead of the Champions League final.

Manchester City take on Inter on Saturday evening as they look to win the famous European trophy for the first time in their history as well as secure a historic treble. Pep Guardiola's side defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup final last week after wrapping up the Premier League title.

However, ahead of kick-off, a huge fire in a five-story building in Istanbul sent big and dark plumes of smoke into the otherwise clear blue sky. Video footage captured the smoke making its way to the stadium ahead of kick-off. The smoke can be seen rising above one of the touchline stands and drifting its way towards one of the goal ends.

Another video posted on Twitter from the scene of the flames shows several fire trucks at the scene as emergency services try to get the blaze under control on a boiling day in the Turkish metropolis.

The fire is the latest complication on a day in which fans of both teams have lodged complaints over the stadium's accessibility. Traffic around the stadium has been gridlocked for hours which has seen attendees abandon their transport in order to walk to the match instead. One video showed City supporters clad in sky blue running along a road alongside a snaking queue of cars hardly moving.

Inter were the first team to arrive and City have finally made it the ground despite having to crawl through the traffic near the stadium.
