Huge blow: West Ham dealt big injury setback ahead of AVFC, the Hammers will be gutted - opinion

West Ham United manager David Moyes has revealed the latest information regarding the injured Jarrod Bowen ahead of the Hammers’ meeting with Aston Villa at the London Stadium this afternoon.

According to Moyes, Bowen won’t be available for today’s match in East London.

Speaking to the media, the Scotsman said: “We’ve got one or two knocks and niggles and regarding Jarrod, he’s not going to be available for the game at the weekend. But we’re hoping that he can continue to make some improvement. He’s slowly getting better.”

The 25-year-old missed Thursday’s trip to Sevilla in the Europa League after suffering an injury in the 1-0 defeat at Liverpool last weekend and is still sidelined.

After an excellent start to 2022, the Englishman is certainly the Hammers’ most in-form player, at least in the final third. The Englishman has scored seven goals in his last 11 appearances, making the winger a colossal threat down the flanks.

The blow is particularly hefty given the few goals scored by Bowen’s fellow wide men this campaign, with Said Benrahma (eight), Pablo Fornals (five) and Nikola Vlasic (one) all failing to find the back of the net more frequently than the 25-year-old’s 12 goals so far this campaign.

Moreover, the aforementioned trio are all suffering from respective goal droughts, with Fornals the only player to have scored in 2022 with a strike in the 3-2 Premier League defeat to Leeds United back in January.

With ten league games left this season, West Ham are now in a crunch period, with the East London side still boasting an excellent chance of finishing in the top-six for a second consecutive season.

As well as their league duties, the Hammers are still very much in their Europa League round of 16 tie with La Liga
