'Huge bang' heard after reports of car crashing through bus stop into house

A police cordon was in place in Tameside tonight after a car reportedly 'came off the road' and ploughed into a bus stop and house.

Emergency services were spotted on King Street in Dukinfield at around 7:30pm on Sunday (October 29) following reports of the collision. Pictures show a dark coloured car crashed into a hedge next to a smashed bus stop, as well as a number of police cars, fire crews, and ambulances on the scene.

Witnesses told the Manchester Evening News they heard a lot of sirens before a 'big bang'. They added they believe the driver of the car has 'run off'. It is unclear whether anyone has been injured.

"I was in my house and heard a lot of sirens going around the estate," one man said. "After a few minutes there was a huge bang and this [pictures] is what I came out to see.

"I heard the police say that the suspect made off and there is nobody in the car."

It is understood that the scene has been taken down, but emergency services are still clearing the area.

Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more information.
