Huddersfield Town predicted lineup as Carel Eiting could be difference-maker vs Sheffield United

Carlos Corberan expects Sheffield United to bring a similar game to the John Smith’s Stadium to the one his side just faced against Preston North End – giving him a decision to make as to whether to stick or twist with his lineup.

The Huddersfield Town head coach reverted his changes from the FA Cup to field the same lineup that had started against Derby County in the previous league game, albeit in a different configuration.

Against Preston, Corberan’s side were effectively 5-4-1 off the ball but 4-3-3 on it, with Ollie Turton moving out to right-back and Sorba Thomas pushing onto the right wing.

That gave Town the benefit – on paper, at least – of getting both Danel Sinani and Duane Holmes into the side, but on the day neither was able to make much of an impact despite swapping positions for the second half.

Corberan bemoaned after the game that his side had not shown enough of their technical ability to hold onto the ball in the opposition half – and to us that just screams Carel Eiting’s name.

The Dutchman is still feeling his way back into Championship football but sacrificing a winger to add Eiting to the midfield alongside Jonathan Hogg and Lewis O’Brien could give Town more control and quality on the ball against a Blades side looking for their fifth straight win.

That would allow Turton to concentrate on the defensive side of his game while allowing Thomas to keep pushing forward from wing-back. Pipa has been back in training, but Town are taking his return to action carefully and are surely only likely to start him if they are sure he can get through it.

A 3-5-2 does not have a natural home for Duane Holmes, and there is an argument that partnering Danny Ward with Jordan Rhodes is the natural way to go
